Christmas Letter 2023

Merry Christmas!

How are we here?

How has this year gone by so fast?

        How is it almost 2024?

I can tell you how . . . because there are 4 kids (in 2 cities), 1 dad (sometimes traveling for work), 1 mom & her minivan, multiple teams, multiple schools & 1 cute puppy. Whew!!

Baylor is 20 & LOVING her apartment life in Auburn! She is studying hard & keeps a busy schedule with tailgating, church events & general TALKING with friends. She is doing some babysitting & pre-teaching over her Christmas break & some more TALKING with friends.

William will be 18 any day now! He just made the Men's Soccer Varsity squad for his Senior year & so that makes the 3rd team of this year! He will be joining big sister in Auburn come August & I am sure his dorm room will be a little less complicated. He is half-way through his Senior year & doing well in school. He studies, works, plays soccer & then a little more soccer. He & Whitt are trying out church league basketball & that should be fun for everyone!

Whitty is 16! The church league basketball team, track & school continue to take up his time. He had a broken hand earlier in the Fall, but is back to the high jump now  & added in the long jump! He is looking forward to driving soon & always more youth group events. Running, jumping, driving, youth group & throw in some AP courses & that will be his '24.

Baby Lee is 11! We are in our last year of elementary school & we have a dream teacher & dream class.! He is running the neighborhood, playing soccer, playing outside, catching snakes & throwing the football in the yard ~ EVERYDAY! Earlier this Fall there was a club started in the creek & they created their own currency, that took up about 3 afternoons one week. Middle school will be fun next year, but I am not sure I can convince him to leave his sweet elementary school.

We did a little traveling this year ~ the mountains, Alaska & New England. William & I joined a mission trip to New England, worked with a small church in NH & helped them minister to those less fortunate. It was a beautiful thing to watch your teenager process all the sadness we saw & to step up to help. ALASKA was BEAUTIFUL! I will never forget the silence around us as 1000+ people passed a glacier & stood in awe of the beauty ~ God created such a beautiful world. We saw bears, eagles, glaciers, mountains, waterfalls & trees & each day sat in reverence thinking of THE CREATOR. The mountains in NC were a little rainy this Summer, but we still had great cousin time & a bunch of laughs & family nights around the fire.

Marty built & helped carpool & I worked at our church & carpooled. We went on visits to see our girl & watched soccer, track & more soccer. 2024 will come with more changes when William goes off to college & we leave elementary school behind, but we are ready for it! We will keep God's sovereignty at the forefront of our minds & hearts as we go through 2024. Who knows what adventures lie ahead for the Martin crew, but as always we will do them together with God as our guide!

May 2024 be a blessing to your family!

Love, the Martins

Psalm 73:28

"But for me it is good to be near God;

I have made the Lord God my refuge,

that I may tell of all your works."

Christmas Letter 2022

"I will give them a heart to know that I am the Lord,  & they shall be my people & I shall be their God. . ." Jeremiah 24:7 Merry Christmas 2022! Wow! What a year ~ I am exhausted & joyful & so excited all at the same time! We have a COLLEGE STUDENT! She did AMAZING! I cried like a baby & still do from time-to-time. Baylor is 19 & is loving life on the plains. She has gotten involved & made new friends. She studies & loves her classes. She loves football & basketball games & amidst all that STILL manages to squeeze in 40,000+ words a day! WFM5 - William, our Cinco is a soccer champ once again! He drives to work, school, soccer & EATS. He has made me so proud managing work, school & soccer & studying for ACT & college visits. Doing all well & having fun! He will be a Senior Fall '23 & we are looking forward to that fun year. Whitty is my runner & jumper! He is on the high school track & field team no

So Many Things . . .

So many things have happened . . . So many things good things & so many hard things. So many things that we cannot explain & things we saw coming years ago. So many people & so many places. This momma's heart has had to learn to watch them fly & soar. I keep thinking back to what my Daddy said at our wedding " . . . you give your children roots & wings." It is hard to give them roots that run deep & how you instill true values in them. It is also hard to watch them open their wings ready to soar. They are soaring! They are learning SOOO much & watching these adventures is a true gift. I know one day I will look back as this being a great joy of my life. I am experiencing hurt but it is amidst such beauty & growth. My baby girl has started to fly & she is flying strong. As soon as she started off on her journey she hit a few unexpected bumps & she took a minute, re-grouped & then just kept on going. She was strong & brave. S
